Worked in various segments of the media industry for over a decade - building newsrooms and reporting in the field, teaching journalism classes across the archipelago. These days, reporting freelance for local as well as international outlets. Long-time contributing editor for the Times of Addu. Best known for time as (founding) Managing Editor at The Edition, the then-most comprehensive English News in the Maldives. In 2020, founded a non-profit called Covering Environment to support reporting on eco issues across SIDS like the Maldives through mentorship and networking. Codesigned and launced - with Dr Tom Bradshaw (UK) - Maldives' first specialized Media Ethics course for journalists and media personnel, as part of the Maldives Communications Development Project (MCDP), which was run by Alinea International with funding from the UK government (the course was created in partnership with Maldives Media Council, Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Maldives Media Institute and Maldives Journalist Association). Also (under MCDP) ran the first local safety and awareness workshop for women in media with Myra Abdulla (Lebanon). Avid lecturer and trainer for several journalist trainings and workshops spanning a decade. Proud to be an Oxford University-Reuters Institute Climate Journalism Network Fellow (2024) and an European Union's Media4Democracy Fellow (2000).
